European stocks experienced gains on Thursday, with the Stoxx Europe 600 index finishing up 1.52% at 460.86. Several key indices also saw significant increases, including the FTSE 100 index, which rose by 1.95% to reach 7,673.08. The French CAC 40 index gained 1.19% to reach 7,308.67, while the German DAX saw a 0.97% increase to reach 15,805.29.
Top Performers
Among the companies listed on the Stoxx Europe 600 index, it was health care and life sciences company Idorsia Ltd. that experienced the largest increase on Thursday, with shares rising by 7.8%. Additionally, mining and metals firm Anglo American PLC saw a gain of 7.7%, while real estate company Kojamo Oyj experienced a 7.6% increase in their share price.
Other significant increases were observed in the stocks of Pennon Group PLC, a business services company (up 7.5%), and health care and life sciences business Genmab A/S (up 6.9%).
Market Downturn
On the other hand, retail company THG PLC saw a significant decline in its shares, plummeting by 21.3% on Thursday. Shares of transportation and logistics firm Flughafen Zuerich AG dipped by 3.1%, while real estate investment trusts company alstria office REIT-AG experienced a decrease of 2.9%.
Transportation and logistics company Aena SME S.A. and food/beverages/tobacco firm Chocoladefabriken Lindt & Spruengli AG faced the other significant decreases, both with a decline of around 2.6% and 2.3%, respectively.
Currency and Commodity Update
In terms of currency exchange rates, the pound was down 0.65% against the dollar, while the euro experienced a 0.66% decrease.
Brent crude oil also saw a rise of 1.63%, reaching $93.38.
Bond Performance
The yield on the 10-year gilt decreased by 6.23 basis points to 4.282%. Similarly, the German 10-year bund yield declined by 5.880 basis points to 2.60%.
