European stocks had a positive trading session on Monday, as the Stoxx Europe 600 index rose by 0.38% to reach 478.18. Several key indices also experienced gains, with the German DAX increasing by 0.74% to reach 16,716.47, the French CAC 40 index rising by 0.40% to reach 7,450.24, and the FTSE 100 index remaining relatively flat at 7,694.19.
Top Gainers and Losers
Among the constituents of the Stoxx Europe 600, real estate/construction company Vistry Group PLC saw the largest increase as its shares rose by 6.8%. Health care/life sciences firm Carl Zeiss Meditec AG and industrial goods company Siemens Energy AG also experienced notable gains, with their shares increasing by 5.9% and 5.3% respectively. Air transport company Wizz Air Holdings PLC and technology firm Just Eat Takeaway.com N.V. rounded out the top five largest increases, with their stocks adding 4.8% each.
On the other hand, transportation/logistics company A.P. Moeller-Maersk A/S Series B saw the largest drop among the Stoxx Europe 600 constituents, with its shares falling by 5.7% on Monday. Fossil fuels firm Equinor ASA and printing/publishing company Future PLC also experienced declines, with their shares dropping by 4.5% and 4.2% respectively. Health care/life sciences company Orpea S.A. and fossil fuels company Aker BP ASA rounded out the top five largest decreases, with their stocks falling by 4.2% and 4.0% respectively.
Currency and Commodity Update
The pound showed strength against the dollar, rising by 0.36%, while the euro also had a slight increase of 0.32% against the dollar. Brent crude weakened by 3.78% to $75.78.
Bond Yields
The yield on the 10-year gilt fell by 1.75 basis points to reach 3.775%, while the yield on the German 10-year bund fell by 2.190 basis points to 2.14%.
